Fansub Night Spring '10

Postby chronomeister on Wed Apr 14, 2010 12:49 am

George has given me the go to run another fansub night. The date for it will be April 23. Shows start at 6pm. Come if you can, complain if you can't. I have about half the shows picked out as of now but still need to sift through the most recent shows to finish the schedule. Recommendations are always welcome.

Location: Little Doudna Theatre

Ze shows (descriptions maybe later):

6:00 GIANT KILLING - I have weaknesses. Among them is football and songs with bagpipes because when you think bagpipes you think Scotland and Scotland is crazy about football even more than me. This show is about a really sucky Tokyo football team who keep blaming their ISP on why they suck instead of doing something about it. Only the man nicknamed Giant Killing can help them fix their ISP problems.

6:25 Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu - This show is totally not done by SHAFT, honest. It's about academics for keeps as classes of a school do battles against each other using acedmic pets. A loss means certain death being sent to the pits of hell detention and if your entire class loses, it means it's the dungeons shitty classrooms for your high school experience.

6:50 DRRR!! - Some people call this show Durarara!! just as some people like to say Ruruche and Roro from a different series and Horo from a series we're watching this semester. I also think this is the same studio that did Spice & Wolf, though I'm not sure. There are also parts of this show that remind me of Baccano! so if you liked Baccano! this show might be up you alley. Anyway it's about different groups of people all trying to accomplish goals in Tokyo. One's trying to get a head, one's trying to get though high school, one want to dick around with the other two groups, and there's a random assortment of other characters.

7:15 Kaichou wa Maid-sama - I can't come up with a description for this show but this guy named Zac Bertschy wrote a wonderful review that I will use for this show.
I like this show as much as you like it, if not more, or less. It's about people doing things. I enjoyed it, but also liked some parts more than I liked other parts, but I also loved some parts, so that was good. There are many attractive people in this show and I plan on enjoying their attractiveness throughout the show. In addition, the music was also something I liked about this show. And the animation was something I liked.

Also, things happened in this show. Some of them I liked, others I loved. If you like shows like this one, you will like this show.

7:40 Break - And by break I mean a double dose of Legend of Koizumi.

8:00 Tokyo Mag 8.0 - This show was on the chopping block last Fansub Night, but got replaced Kobato because it have crows that attacked people like Kobato had. Anyway, this is the story of some bratty bitch who becomes less of a bitch after an earthquake disrupts her bratty way of life. Almost tempting to show episode 2 so I don't have to watch her being a bratty bitch again.

8:25 Arakawa Under the Bridge - Being a registered SHAFT fanboi, I gotta show something from SHAFT. Thought I might put it at the end as so people can leave in case their head cannot handle the explosive power SHAFT and their heads would explode for sheer awesome. Oh yeah, the show is about a rich guy who who has a certain condition which gets him trapped underneath a bridge. And because I love this show so much I'm going to show 9 episodes. Please disregard any fact that only 3 shows have been aired.

9:50 Katanagatari - From the creator of Bakemonogatari and the director of Malace@Doll, come the epic adventure of a swordless samurai and a tactician to recover the 12 swords of awesome powa. Be prepared to be blown away with epic sword fighting with cool moves and none of this sappy stuff like story and dialogue. Note: this is an OVA so it will be 50 mins instead of the others being 25 min.

Was thinking between Ippo and Giant Killing with the latter more recent but proly not as good, so though choice. I have no idea who posted that comment from me below stating no licensed/Crunchyroll as who knew companies like to license good shows.

Here are some suggestions. I don't know exactly what has / hasn't been shown before, but this is the recent anime I've looked at. My #1 recommendation is at the top of the list... and my #2 is probably They Are My Noble Masters.

Blassreiter

Motorcycle racing (Crotch rocktes), mechs, zombies, mech zombies, zombie mechs, zombie mech bikes, mech bikes, zombie cars and andriods, a very well done anime with some drama in it, too.

Kuroshitsuji-Black Butler

We've all liked anime set in the UK in the past... this one has demonic oaths, the royal family, and a candy shop!

Tenpo Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi - Ghost Slayers Ayashi
Image

Anime that follows a group of samurai who deal with strange demons and kill them with weapons they pull from their Kanji, or the demon's name's Kanji. Also fun for those learning Japanese. (i.e. he actually turns 父 into two crossed axes and then kills the demon with them.)

Inukami!

Yeah...well...it's fun. And there's lots of elephants where genitles should be. It' hilarious

They Are My Noble Masters

If you liked anything about Excel Saga...this anime will not allow you to BREATHE it is SO DAMN FUNNY. It rips on tons of other anime...and is just wrong and deprave.

Pumkin Scissors

For Steve. Main character is basically Steve. It's about an Anti Tank Troop unit who used will o' wisps to... well... be a person with a pistol...and take down a tank.

You realize half your suggestions are already licensed right?

Anyhow, I suggest Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, Cashern Sins, Heroman, Gundam Unicorn, and Durarara!

Which is why I suggest them for fansub night... and not for the SPAMM schedule.

But licensed shows aren't fansubs, in a manner of speaking.

...right...so... it only took me the better part of an hour to get this... damn... *goes over to a corner of the room to weep and masturbate furiously in failure*

So... like...

Inukami

Ghost Slayers Ayashi

and

They Are My Noble Masters

I think those are still unlicensed

Well as long I don't grab the subs done by the company, it would be ok. But I've only once shown a show which at the time was licensed (Xam'd) and plan to keep it that way. Also, I'm going to consider Crunchyroll shows to be licensed so Heroman and DRRR!! proly won't make the cut. (I can almost guarantee DRRR!! will be on Fall schedule anyway.) I expect by the end weekend to have a list of shows.

Edit: I might take back that second part of that statement.

Might I chose this time to interject and promote once more Ghost Hunter Ayashi.

All the characters end up getting addicted to Roasted Demon God Jello Meat, and it is all that will sate their hunger once they've tasted it.

Noted, but it's got two strikes against it. 1) Licensed by Bandai and 2) it's going on 3 years old and I try to keep fansub night fresh. A better strategy would be trying to promote the show to next year's officers.

Yeah, I've had the list but I'm sitting on it to make sure I don't have any I might take back. There's still one on there I might regret but I can't find anything to replace it. Let me go edit my first post...
